linux-sound-base software package provides base package for ALSA and OSS sound systems, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base
linux-sound-base is installed in your system.
Make ensure the linux-sound-base package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep linux-sound-base *
You will get with linux-sound-base package name, version, architecture and description in a table
